Manufacturers Business Summit & Lunch
Description
Manufacturers Business Summit & Lunch
All are welcome to join us for our Manufacturing Business Summit & Lunch at the Coca-Cola Refreshments plant in Niles on Thursday, April 21. This event includes:
- A discussion on the “Skills Gap” – an inability to find suitable candidates to fill skilled labor positions (welding, machining, etc.) and what our local high schools and colleges are doing to engage young people into engineering and technology fields.
- Plus, learn about programs that expose local students to potential careers in these fields. See how connecting students to the work force can translate into employees and qualified talent for your business.
- Learn how robotic automation can improve efficiency for businesses and keep manufacturing here in the USA.
- Network with area businesses and a tour of the Coca-cola bottling plant facility
PRESENTERS:
Compass Automation, Brian Greviskes, President/CEO
While manufacturers commonly discuss the “skills gap” most manufacturers fail to recognize another equally disturbing trend i.e. the tendency for engineers from top colleges to pursue careers outside of manufacturing. In 2015, less than 5% of MIT graduates pursued careers in manufacturing. Caltech, Stanford, and Berkeley showed similar trends. The best engineering talent in the US is moving away from an industry that desperately needs innovation. Learn how we are reversing this trend.
Brian Greviskes is the President/CEO of Compass Automation, an Elgin-based manufacturer of custom automation and robotic systems. He is also a patented inventor, published author, and graduate of MIT’s mechanical engineering department.
