Dance Instructor - Immediate

Viking Gymnastics & Dance is looking for energetic, creative and reliable individuals who want to make a lasting positive impact, share their passion for dance and help every student to reach their fullest potential. Our growing dance program is currently in its fifth season with over 400 enrollments. We offer comprehensive onboarding training in addition to continued mentorship and peer support.

 

Current needs for teaching shifts are Tuesdays (4:00pm-8:15pm), Wednesdays (9:15am-11:30am), Thursdays (4:30pm-8:30pm), and Saturdays (9:15am-12:45pm). This is a part-time position with the potential for future growth dependent on breadth of experience and program needs. 

 

The ideal candidate has previous experience and a passion for teaching tot/kinder and/or beginner-intermediate levels in Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary or Tap. Candidates with additional gymnastics & tumbling experience and/or customer relations experience are encouraged to apply. Priority will be given to candidates with relevant dance experience and matching availability. 

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Committed, reliable and consistent presence for students

  • Share an energetic/motivational teaching presence and deeply rooted passion for dance education 

  • Create a positive, safe and nurturing learning environment for all students

  • Be a positive role model through dance mentor ship with the ability to nurture the individual and promote community 

  • Stay up-to-date on dance trends and training methods

  • Balance fun with technical rigor 

  • Instruct students in proper, safe and informed dance techniques in an effective and encouraging manner

  • Instruct a variety of styles and ages as determined by shift needs

  • Utilize studio curriculum to develop unique and engaging lesson plans

  • Confidently assess students’ skill level and growth for level placement/advancement

  • Adhere to studio guidelines that promote age appropriate music, choreography and costumes

  • Choreograph and rehearse routines for annual recital performances June 25 & 26, 2022


Preferred Skills & Qualifications:

  • 1-2 years studio teaching or equivalent experience 

  • Comfort and willingness to instruct children ages 3 and up

  • Experience with teaching beginner-intermediate levels

  • Personable and reliable presence 

  • Strong behavioral and time management skills in the classroom 

  • Ability to relate to, motivate, inspire and energize students of all ages and skill levels

  • Continually invested in improving personal dance pedagogy methods (life-long learner mindset)

  • Willingness to contribute to a community based learning environment and student growth focused culture

  • Generate age appropriate choreographic material to clean/appropriate music selections and costuming 

  • Ability to lesson plan freely, creatively and imaginatively within a curriculum framework
